Camp Angel / Camp Teen Angel Overview
About Our Camps
Camp Angel (ages 8-12) and Camp Teen Angel (ages 13-15) are presented through the co-partnership of Angel On My Shoulder and Marshfield Clinic. Collaboratively, these unique support camps were designed to address the needs of young people (ages 8-15) affected by cancer through loved one (parent, sibling or grandparent) or who have experienced the loss of a loved one through cancer. These weekend retreats are cost-free to our campers and provide them with an opportunity to meet others like themselves in a well supervised atmosphere of love and acceptance knowing that their pain is understood. A wonderful spirit of bonding and camaraderie prevails as campers create special friendships and participate in a variety of fun-filled activities. These unique cancer support camps are held twice a year at campsites located in beautiful northern Wisconsin. Camp Angel for ages 8-12 is scheduled annually the second weekend of July followed by a second session the third weekend in January. Camp Teen Angel for young teens ages 13-15 is offered the fourth weekend in October (which corresponds with statewide teacher conferences) and a summer weekend retreat held in late July. Campers may attend two sessions of Camp Angel or two sessions of Camp Teen based on their age at the time the retreats are offered. Our transportation to and from camp is provided on coach buses from designated pick-up points throughout the state based on the location of the campers. Parents/Guardians are asked to see that their child(ren) get to and from the established bus stop locations. We gratefully applaud our outstanding counseling and volunteer staff who graciously give of their time and talents to make Camp Angel/Camp Teen Angel the best it can be for children going through a “not so good” time in their young lives.
If you know of a child or children who could benefit from the loving care of Camp Angel/Camp Teen Angel, or for further information please contact us.
The philosophy Camps for kids experiencing cancer through a loved one. of Camp Angel/Camp Teen Angel is to help young people realize:
- It’s okay to smile, laugh and have fun even though a loved one is hurting.
- It’s okay to be sad, angry and frustrated about what they are going through due to a loved one’s illness.
- They are not alone, others are experiencing similar feelings.
