There Are Angels Among Us

These unique Angel Care retreats were designed to offer those special individuals who sacrifice (or have sacrificed) their time and energies to care for those living with cancer an opportunity to come together and learn techniques that enable them to reduce fatigue associated with physical, mental and emotional stress. The overall objective of Angel Care is to learn how to take care of yourself while providing the best care and support for family, friends and other loved ones living with cancer.

This gift of caring comes naturally for some of these “Guardian Angels” and for others it is a trained profession. Yet for others it may be a duty, obligation or family necessity. Burnout is a serious threat, risk and reality, no matter the reason, whether it may be a duty, obligation or family necessity.

Anita (Nita) Domnitz, R.N., M.S., N.D., is Angel Care’s amazing facilitator. She has created a safe, non-judgmental and nurturing environment for these self-sacrificing “angels” to share their experiences and focus on relaxation and education. Nita recognizes that they give (or have given) of themselves to tend to the needs of those living with cancer and is there to help them gain insights into self-care and healing.

The Wintergreen Hotel & Conference Center in the Wisconsin Dells is the official “home of Angel Care”. Owners, Chuck and Dianne Thompson and Julie and Bob Johnson, generously provide our cancer caregivers with the perfect setting to gather. Shirley Lewandowski along with the rest of the outstanding staff tend to all the needs of “Angel Care” with their  remarkable service.

“We have marked our calendar for Angel Care.  It will be so nice for us to connect with others that are going through the same things and find ways within ourselves to be able to heal.  It has been a long road just like many others experience.  When you are going through this you feel as if you are on an island of your own. We are looking forward to this retreat”.  Thanks for everything.  Wendy

“I just wanted you to know how much this retreat meant to me and to thank Angel On My Shoulder for providing this opportunity.  It was so good to share and communicate with others who had been dealt similar scripts – to know that I was not alone – to be able to laugh – to finally be able to cry – a

nd to again hope and find some peace, (or at least a better acceptance.  I had initially been hesitant about attend the retreat but finally gave in to my husband’s insistence  (he was diagnosed with multiple melanoma at the beginning of this year). Now we are both glad that I attended. My participation in the retreat helped me finally face and better accept our current situation.  I feel I have more tools to choose reaction and attitudes from and more positive ones.  It was greatly appreciated”.  Susan

“Thank you so much.  I cried a lot, some happy, some sad.  Overall I feel very relieved that I’m not alone in this – there are others, strangers who become friends.  We’re all connected somehow which is great”.  Heidi
