Special Requests and Support through Angel Wings
Addressing the needs of those in the cancer-affected community as a whole is the purpose of the Angel Wings program.
Through our close alignment with the cancer-affected community, we realize the great personal hardship so many experiences for which there may exist no apparent relief or remedy.
Our Angel Wings program is designed to support those living with cancer by providing them broader opportunities to receive help through different vehicles of support without duplicating the services available through other foundations and organizations.
Angel Wings was not created (nor are we able) to assist directly with financial needs (i.e. payment of bills, insurance, rents, mortgages, automobile or house repairs, etc.). It is the hope of Angel On My Shoulder to alleviate the stress brought on by the cancer crisis and gently lift spirits in helpful and positive ways:
Lynn Lecher (center) with daughters Nicole and Sara by her side paused for a picture at the Mall of America (Underwater Adventure) during their Angel Wings bonding excursion. They were accompanied by her mom, Janet Woller (on her left) and niece, Ashley Woller.
“Included in a warmly received thank you gift from Lynn to Lolly was a very special Angel plaque with these words”.
“That’s it … I’m calling my Angel”!!
It makes ME smile and brightens MY day!! Lolly
A shopping mall adventure for a seventeen-year-old young woman to help make things brighter for her during her extremely difficult battle with brain cancer.
This request, from a wonderfully caring woman, came before us:
“Could you please ship one angel figurine and two angel pins (one for McKenna and one for her mama, Laura, who needs an angel looking out for her as well? McKenna is 3 years old and has been fighting brain cancer since shortly after her 2nd birthday. She has often told her parents about “angel visits” that she has had”.
My husband was a patient in the bone marrow transplant unit at Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee and received your little gift bag with items from Angel On My Shoulder. It was so uplifting and inspiring. The little angel figurine sits on my kitchen ledge where we can see it daily. I think that McKenna (and her mom) would love to have an Angel pin and an AOMS figurine”. Sue
A special request for a family photo (Mom and Four Daughters) in time for Mother’s Day . . .
“My Mom, Esther, is battling leukemia and 13 years earlier endured a difficult battle with throat cancer. At that time she was given a 2% chance of beating it. She kept a positive attitude and believed she could do it. Each time she felt her will slipping she said that she would look at photo of her and her four daughters that was taken before she became ill. Looking at that picture kept her going. Here we are again with cancer threatening her. If you ask her what her greatest accomplishment is in life she say “my girls”. To be able to have another photo taken would absolutely thrill her”.
“Thank you so much for granting Mom’s request. I just spoke with her. She was so excited that she cried when I told her we were going to be able to get the photo done. We will be forever grateful to Angel On My Shoulder for doing this for Mom. I will pray for you and your efforts to continue to bring joy into people’s lives that are suffering a life threatening illness. Deb
Special request for assistance with lodging:
“This request is for assistance with lodging. The patient is receiving in-patient chemo for full-blown AML-Leukemia, which cannot be done in his hometown. There is no room for the patient’s wife to stay in the room. She is stressed about the financial impact of staying in lodging close by. She would like to stay at a motel that would offer a weekly rate. Could Angel On My Shoulder assist in making her stay there possible”? Peg, ACS Regional Navigator
The request was granted, helping to alleviate stress for the patient and his spouse brought on by the cancer crisis.
(Right) Chris Becker, AOMS Board member, presented an XBOX and games for a sixteen-year-old going through a difficult cancer experience. His mom, Stephanie, accepted this special gift to give her son on our be half.
We later received this note (in part) from his Social Worker at Children’s Hospital- Milwaukee.
Dear Lolly and Staff,
Thanks to Angel On My Shoulder for the XBOX and games for Xavier. He was so happy and excited to receive this gift from you. You all are the best!! May God bless you.
Paula, Social Worker-Children’s Hospital-Milwaukee.
If you or someone you know would benefit from the gentle embrace of our Angel Wings, please contact us. We consider each and every one of them. Independent verification of underlying circumstances, resources, merit, etc. is established for each request.
